Develop a mature and efficient dynamic tripod grasp with the simple instruction of: “pinch the eyes, cover the mouth and wrap your fingers around the tail.”
These design features act as visual cues to aid in proper finger placement:
Pick up the dolphin so that:
- The thumb covers one of its eyes
- The index finger covers its other eye
- The middle finger covers its mouth
- The ring and pinky fingers wrap around its tail.

Gradually develop the proper tripod 3-finger grasp with these 3 favourite grips.
Begin with keeping the index finger and thumb from crossing (thumb wrap) with the Crossover Grip. Proceed to the next step using the new Pinch Grip that gently guides the fingers into proper positioning. Progress to The Pencil Grip which requires less confirming to positioning allowing for comfort with slight cues to assume the tripod position.
